Well, I've found a way, but it's a pretty ugly hack. I've simply used
a CFNotificationCenter. That seems to work, but the big problem with
this approach is that the communication is too unrestricted; if
multiple documents (say, in AULab) are open, communication even occurs
between these documents. But for now, this approach will have to do...
