There is an example for how to write the offline AU in our examples, but I don't know how you would then use it, given the point above.
I'd suggest you could write a bug for Logic to support offline AU processing.
Also, there are other host app developers on this list, maybe they might want to chime in about this?
We have a framework in Ardour/Mixbus to apply non-realtime FX to regions and write the results to disk. At present, we only use it to for:
1) reversal
2) time FX
3) feature analysis
Code-wide, it would be relatively easy to use an 'auol' within this framework, but its not easy to see the motivation, especially when George's particular case is already done by Ardour anyway. If there was a rich set of offline-only processing available from 'auol' AU's it might be more compelling.
