The MusicLibraryRemoteIODemo.zip has a working Xcode project with code for a simple gain control with arbitrary source track, hopefully easy to extend to make any sort of remixing app. I don't claim it's the cleanest code, but it does the job for me, and it's the way I achieved this with the BBCut iphone app (http://itunes.apple.com/app/bbcut/id393170925?mt=8).
