I don't know about the multichannel mixer, but the matrix mixer works for me, and it provides metering and audio level for each channels too.
So if the multi channel mixer is broken, it's probably possible to workaround the problem by using a matrix mixer.
And this is one of the few unit that come with a sample code to show how to use it, the MatrixMixerTest sample code.
