Using Audio Unit to affect audio level application-wide ?

  • Subject: Using Audio Unit to affect audio level application-wide ?

Hello list,

My application uses QTKit to play movies, and NSSound to play short UI
sound effects. It will run on a Mac mini 2010 connected to a TV using
HDMI, thus I cannot set the OS sound volume. But I'd like to set the
output volume for my app, without having to set the volume on every
NSSound and QTMovie I play.

Can I use Audio Units to get all the sound produced by my app (I
gather it's kAudioUnitSubType_DefaultOutput), set its gain, and send
it back to the default audio output ?

Any pointer would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Francois
