I'm not trying to condescend to you. I'm making a suggestion in good
faith. This stuff's hard, and there's really nothing in Core Audio
that you can just take off the shelf and use for your purpose.

Various implementations of what you're talking about have actually
been pointed out over the course of this thread. The concept you're
describing is simple to enunciate; it's much harder to actually
implement.
