Hi,
I'm something of a newbie in the Core Audio world and am having trouble getting started. I hope someone can help me with my baby steps.
My requirement is fairly simple - I have an app (MacOS) that needs to play various short sequences of notes. These are user-generated and need some graphical effects running in sync with them so a preset file won't do it. My first thought was to use MIDI and the built-in synth, do you think this the easiest way to go about it?
Here's what I need to do:
1) Use some sort of clock for timing. The precision isn't that crucial, no need to worry about latency or minor slipping due to the system flagging under load.
2) Play notes. I need to be able to start the notes and either manually stop them or have some sort of callback when the note ends (if this is possible).
And that's it. Nothing very complex (I hope!). The last time I had to code something like this was using QuickTime so I'm somewhat out of the loop with current audio processing.
There are lots of references to MIDI examples in the Core Audio documentation (SampleTools, PlaySoftMIDI, PlaySequence) but I can't seem to find them anywhere. If anyone can point me to some example projects/files I'd be very appreciative!
Thanks in advance for your help.
