Hi Bill,
seeing that this question has been asked here a few times before some time ago, I would like to know when we can expect Logic and/or MainStage to support it? I'm aware that supporting midi-filter plugins on channel strips may require some changes in the UI and core of the app, but I believe it would really open up for some nice possibilities that I've been missing now and then such as being able to build polyphonic arpeggiators, drum machines, automatic parameter modulation or even just layering multiple synths to create more varied and modulated sounds.
Best regards,
Jan Marguc

We don't have a host app yet that implements this, so there is a chicken-egg problem here. It is something we've wanted to do for AULab, but just haven't been able to find the time to do it yet (sorry!)

Thanks for the reply. But this is not really in depth documentation.... I have implemented the callback function just like in the sinsynth example but it seems not to work (nor does the sinsynthwithmidi by the way). I expected the incoming midi messages to be send like a midi thru port. So I loaded the audiounit and connected it to an other soft instrument (in KORE from NI) but no incoming midi is passed thru. Any help?
Thanks in advance.

I am also very much interested in this. Please let me know if you find any more helpful information.
The ability to feed a host with generated or processed MIDI seems like a reasonable basic feature, actually. It would be great if a host was able to pass on this MIDI to subsequent AUs for rendering or record it to a track. However, as far as I have investigated yet, most DAW do not support this well. Tricky to set up via IAC Driver loopback, etc.
