how to get number of frames ahead of render process?

I know this must be easy to do, but I'm having a heck figuring it out…

I'm trying to determine the number of frames for each render callback during my initialization process. I can get it inside the render process (it's 512), but I'm not sure if that number will stay the same in every situation. Does the hardware determine the size of the buffer frame? Or does the AUGraph?

Ben
