iOS volume control / gain structure

  • Subject: iOS volume control / gain structure

I am writing a "media player" style application which decodes music
from the iTunes library, and then renders the data with a Remote IO
unit + callback.

The algorithms I wish to implement are dependent on the user's
listening level, so regarding volume control, I assume iOS performs
mix-down and attenuation on a system-wide level. Or would it be
possible to act as a volume control for my application and notify the
OS that it is "pre-attenuated"?

Thanks

-Kevin
