host-side : loss of AU GUI/view sensitivity to events on newer OS X versions

been working on building ardour on newer versions of OS X (Lion, Snow
Leopard). have noticed that the GUIs totally lose all sensitivity to
mouse and keyboard events, even though they display perfectly
normally. anybody with host-side experience of changes in OS X that
might have led to this? we basically follow the standard advice of
packing the NSView provided by the plugin into our window, and very
little else.
