Thanks for the responses, everyone. I will get the book either soon on Safari or when the first edition is available.
I have glanced at the preview pages on Safari. It's not a book about programming. It's a book about core audio ;) I welcome it.
In the present situation, getting going with core audio using only Apple resources feels like trying to reassemble an live animal from a heap of roadkill. I expect I'll being stitching antlers onto *ssholes for a month or two until I figure out what's what.
Meanwhile, I am grateful to those of you that have pointed me in the direction of working sample code. That should help.
