how to know how many channels are supported by a sound card

Hi There,

I am getting a list of device ID and device name in my Mac pro.
I am using the following function AudioObjectGetPropertyData. But how
do I find out how many channels this hardware(sound card) supports?
Any API that I did not find out? Your help is highly appreciated.
