Oh, I'm sure it could be right, and I sure hop it isn't, because that would mean they've decided to get rid of desktop computing altogether...
I think they're just not investing enough man-hours in maintaining old code that (once) worked, with all the efforts going on w.r.t. AVFoundation, iOS 6, (i)OS X 10.9 etc.
