Hello Gordon,
Thank you for the link. I am not looking for an audio drive though. I am not the original poster of this thread, merely a follow-up-ranter.
I was looking for some Cocoa Host example code because the one that Apple posted many years ago is broken.
As for PC hardware, since it is so vast it is hard to compare just any PC hardware to Mac. In that case, I agree Mac will win. However if you choose wisely and do research on value for dollar you might come to another conclusion.
As for my Mac hardware, I have maybe 8 macs. My PowerCenter and Mac G3, Mac G4, and Mac G4 Powerbooks are the only ones that still function properly, all powerPC computers. The latest two Apple computers an iMac and an already serviced Dual-core macBookPro both have significant problems. I already mentioned the MacPro.
Anyway I guess that is the point. Now you have to pay to get documentation on the OS? If apple is going to get third parties to write the documentation and sell it why don't they get third parties to write the software and sell it? Instead they sell products like GarageBand, Mainstage and Logic and then do not share the knowledge of the technology with third parties.

Jeremy,
I just got this book from Apress that is really good for Driver code:
http://www.apress.com/9781430235361-4892 OSX and IOS Kernel Programming by Authors
Henry Halvorsen and
Doug Clarke.
There is a basic core audio driver included and you can download the source code.
As for your hardware issues, believe me I have 18 MACS and do development on both camps and I really would not buy anything but Apple, especially for my Windows development. I have had really good luck and have developed a TON of USB Audio devices and not ounce I have killed a port. Even when board companies send me shorted VBUS to ground boards when I have them electrically tested no problems. Cannot say the same thing for the PC/Linux machines I have in productions they die too frequently to ask.
Thanks
Gordon
