The sample as downloaded will not register itself with the Component Manager as it doesn't build a 'thng' resource -- have you added back the .r file to the build (and AUResources.r) so the 'thng' registration is being included in the product? If not, the Component Manager isn't going to know it's there and Logic 9 isn't gonna see it. The fact that AULab sees it and it passes auval seems to suggest this.

Use the Fiendishthngs tool (available as a sample) to see your registered AUs. If it isn't there then that's your first step.
