I'm not expert on OS X (iOS guy here) but I believe iTunes stores its metadata separately from the files themselves. I'm not sure there's a system API that lets you edit it.

Looking at AVFoundation, AVAssetExportSession is the stated way to do such. However, it appears that I'm required to create a new file (outputURL).

I would prefer to only add or edit existing metaData in my audio file and not create a new file.

Is this possible?
