Hello All
Thought I’d ask this one on here before I submit a full report to apple.
About a year ago I started to notice my computer locking up at regular intervals. It would be working fine and then suddenly lock up dead. It didn’t make it to the Grey screen of death but everything stopped working. The crashes became more and more regular until after a month or so my computer wouldn’t even boot before it froze. After a lot of messing around I tracked it down to my trusty Edirol FA101 Firewire audio card. I removed this as it wasn't being used a lot at that point and everything became fine.
What was very odd was that during my debug I set up a partition containing 10.6.7 and this didn’t have any problems at all. It was only when I upgraded to 10.8 or 10.9 that the problem occurred.
Any way a few weeks ago I got a request to do some multi channel audio work in the new year so I’ve treated myself to a new Focusrite Saphire USB card. This has been plugged in for the past week or so without problem. Today I got round to wiring in the card having replaced all the old wiring to accommodate the computers onboard output. I’m now, having selected the sapphire as the system output, experiencing the same problem with the computer locking up every half an hour or so.
Has anyone else experienced this? It could just be me but using programmes like Logic and iTunes seem to exacerbate the problem.
It would appear to be kernel level in nature as it takes everything out.
Regards
Russell
P.s. I’m running a Mac Pro 2009 Octal Core Xeon 5500. with the latest edition of Mavericks.
