oh i didnt mean to argue against it.

whoever has already tried to record human voices with cheap mics, no limiter and a bad 24 bit bit converter knows that ~110 dB _can be close to short. the same might be true for infrasound/subsonic applications... but i am not a diver.

i just said - that to my knowledge - the existing 32 bit converters are all only DACs. so you currently cant directly convert from analog to a 32 bit stream (in order to _record audio with up to 192db diff when the filtering is done right)

in case i am still wrong with that i am looking forward to learn about it. of course, on my to-buy list better clocking is far higher ranked that 32-bit, but one should never say no.

-110

Look if it was all about SNR and the capabilities of devices then that would be the end of the story. Yea sure no 32dac or 32adc is going to give us 192dB of information. That being said we have done a lot of studies were we take the 32bit input or output and dither or chop off the data to 24 bits and 99% of the time the user named the 32 over the 24.

It's not all about what it can do, it's about how it can do. If the DAW is working in integer mode and capable of 64 integer accumulation then why should we inhibit it?

Thanks,
Gordon

do == emmit? :)

the sabre emmits 24 bits (and hopefully claims that to the OS). some fancy overflow bits in the delta sigma realm or additional effects in more-than-24 is another story.

ESS has 2 parts that do 32 and AKM has 3. I have products running on both platforms.

Thanks,

well for AD converters... it is. simply because there are no converters which can do analog to 32 bit integer.

files and streams otoh can be of up to 64 bit integer resolution and precision since MacOS 6.
