Adriaan,
First, thanks for the list. We do try to keep all of our tools as up-to-date as possible but we do like to prioritize that by customer demand, particularly when customers take the time to note just what features or bugs are driving the request (e.g. not just "because the version number went up and that means it must be better" :-).
Second, let me also suggest that the best way of doing this is not actually via mailing lists, where such requests tend to get lost or otherwise fall on the floor, but in radar. You can use http://bugreport.apple.com to file such requests, it's not just for "bugs" per-se (if you put "ER:" in the title, the screeners will also know it's an Enhancement Request, which helps to classify it). You've included helpful information with each entry below that I would hate to see get lost (we do try and track this sort of information ourselves, but we have a lot to do and never as many people to do it with as we would like - that's just engineering reality).
Third, I should note that the best time to make these requests is near the beginning or middle of an OS release cycle. That's when we have the most latitude for making major component upgrades since it takes time to qualify them; upgrades *do* sometimes break other projects in the system and are never contemplated lightly.

There is a bug in Mac OS X that causes problems when configuring many software packages (see e.g.<http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2004-08/msg00039.html>). As a result of this bug, the coreutils command "uname -p" reports "unknown". This confuses config.guess.
