The word "enforce" brings to mind images of whole days lost to
struggling with
a piece of software which thinks it knows what I need and is
wrong. If you
have ever held any sliver of compassion for your fellow creatures,
MAKE IT
A USER-OVERRIDEABLE OPTION.
Seriously, I can't even imagine when the key question would be
"laptop or
tower". Portable devices? I have taken my Mac mini to coffee shops.
Unportable devices which will never be unplugged or moved? My main
desktop
system was a Pismo in a docking station for several months.
In mission-critical operations such as performing Show Control at a
live event, an accidentally-closed laptop lid could potentially halt
an entire performance, and more importantly, it might even harm
people's lives, ie when triggering pyrotechnics, machine control,
animatronics, etc. Sometimes, kernel hacks are justified... ;)
