It's not entirely clear what your question is here.
If you mean you are running Mac OS X Tiger, and you want to upgrade
"Darwin" (in this context the BSD subsystem and Kernel) to the
corresponding components from Mac OS X Leopard using the open-source
components, then the answer is no. The internals of the higher layers
of Mac OS X tend to depend on the internals of the lower layers of Mac
OS X, and the internals can change quite significantly between major
releases.
If you mean you are running Mac OS X Tiger and you want to upgrade to
Mac OS X Leopard, then go for it.

If you mean you are running some sort of "pure" Darwin installation
based on the 8.x releases, and you want to upgrade to the 9.x
