that doesn't stop crash reports being logged & written to disk
(which is where the bottleneck is)
... it only disables the dialogue (which used to be achieved by
adjustment of a user defaults).
My apologies, I misunderstood the issue.
This might work for you:
defaults write com.apple.CrashReporter MaxReportsToSave 1
