At least according to that URL, it's a MacOS 9 thing.
All I meant to say here is that there may be some strange
interaction with the line terminator at the end of the file name,
which might go away if the file is renamed. I'm pretty sure it
doesn't do anything on normal MacOS X, unless you are using the
"Classic" environment in order to run the application the icon
represents.
Nope. Finder X still does custom icons this way (there may be other
ways, but "Icon\r" is still valid even today).
