If you have a Mac OS X machine you'll surely have noticed how you can mount
a disk image by double-clicking in the finder... I don't know exactly how
it's handled internally, but you're bound to find something useful by
looking at the man-page, the source, and the ktrace of the hdiutil and
hdid command-line tools.
