Thanks a lot for these pointers, I will certainly fill in a bug report.

What we are looking for is the source of the error, so that we can adjust our
programme (fix a bug, or workaround a bug in the kernel). Currently we
are "fishing in the dark", none of us are kernel developers and having our
macs crashing shortly after running our application is proving to be very
frustrating, without a lead on what we should try changing to prevent
triggering the panic.
