Yes, depending on how the emulation interacts with the underlying filesystem.

It's also quite possible that other characteristics of the AFP vs. NFS difference set are playing out here.  They are quite different in a number of ways; it may be that Firefox is doing something that is reasonable locally and over AFP, but which breaks down on NFS.  You really need to look at something like the output from fs_usage to see what the differences are on a given arc.
