Fed-Talk Subscribers,
I am very behind in keeping up with many Fed-Talk mailing list messages
and comments that need to be made along the way. I will do everything
possible to do so, but if someone is still looking for answers or help,
please don't hesitate to re-post it or ping me for a response to the
list....

If I recall correctly, if you have an SCM 331 reader, it has to be at
least firmware 1.4x.to work with OS X.
The reader driver installed under Mac OS X 10.3.x specifically supports
the SCM Microsystems SCR331 USB High Speed EMV (CCID) Reader. This
includes all readers built from the same mechanism as long as they have
the manufacturer’s CCID firmware loaded. The “SCR331” is a family of
readers, as noted by the manufacturer SCM Microsystems, and does not
constitute a specific model. The driver installed is specifically for
the High Speed EMV (CCID) Reader.
Verifying the Smart Card Reader’s Firmware
In the case of the Mac OS, they could identify this using the System
ProfilerUtility located in the ApplicationsàUtilityFolder. Select
HardwareàUSBand the appropriate USB bus & device.

I seem to remember reading a few months ago that the ActivCard USB
Reader required a firmware upgrade or flash or something. Is this
correct, and if so has anything been posted? Our command is in the
process of installing CAC Readers, but the support folks have been
told to take care of only the PCs, not Macs.
One of the techs gave me a reader to experiment with. I have
installed the CommonAccessCard package from Mac OS X 10.3, disk 3.
The reader is V2.0 and I'm currently running 10.3.5. Can anyone
tell me the process to get things working?
The ActivCard USB v2 Reader is actually the SCM SCR 331 Reader with
Firmware modification made by ActivCard. You can either flash it like
mentioned above or use the ActivCard v2 driver for Mac OS X. This
driver will also be available as part of the "Master Smart Card Reader
Driver Installer" I that is almost complete. I have been given legal
permission to distribute the driver for those using the ActivCard v2
reader with the built-in services in Mac OS X. If you are one of these
individuals and you need this immediately or at least before I release
the Master installer, drop me a note and I will make it available to
you. Sorry for the delay in releasing the Master Installer -- It has
been time, resources and acquisition of all of the legal releases
required.
The DRAFT "Smart Card Setup and Configuration Guide is almost done and
will be publicly posted very soon now -- for those that have been
waiting patiently for so long...
