Apple mail is still a little sketchy about validating signed messages. Some
signatures change their validity status seemingly randomly. I've compared
this behavior with the same messages in Entourage (that always appear as
valid).
I've gotten around my file vault incompatibility with Apple's CAC support by
installing the MuscleCard PKCS#11 Framework for Mac OS X found here:
http://www.linuxnet.com/software.html
The lack of integration with logins in this package is actually helping me
out.
