The question was asked by a representative of Apple Computer. They indicated they were considering making it a moderated list, and imposing stricter restrictions on subscribing. Since there has been overwhelming support for not doing these things, I guess it wasn't a non issue. The previous policy was, that you had to have a .mil/.gov address. This policy was not strictly enforced, and Apple was asking if they should begin to strictly enforce it. I think there has been unanimous consensus that the official policy should be similar to what had been the defacto policy, and that there doesn't seem to be a need for an authority figure to screen the posts. The only issue that seems to be still under discussion is: since this list is provided by Apple, for use by the Apple federal community, how do you determine who is part of the "Federal Community". If it sounded like I was advocating a formal sponsorship procedure, I didn't intend it that way. I was only suggesting tha!
t concurrence by someone with a .mil/.gov address was ONE way for someone to justify that they had a federal connection.

Folks: I would propose that we're burning bandwidth discussing a
non-issue.
Apple Computer provides this list resource, so right off the bat, you're
working from a non .mil/.gov entity.
Let's focus on the issues at hand and leave this non-issue aside.

It would be nice if it were kept open to those of us who do work for
the Federal government but lack .mil/.gov addresses. Someone mentioned
having a .mil/.gov sponsor. How would that be done, exactly?
