This morning two new memory CTO options were added to Xserve G5 based on 2GB DIMMs – 8GB vis 4x2GB DIMMs and 16GB via 8x2GB DIMMs. These DIMM configurations are available immediately.

<x-tad-smaller>About 2GB DIMMS</x-tad-smaller>
<x-tad-smaller>Standard Xserve G5 systems support up to 8GB of RAM using 1GB PC3200 ECC unbuffered, unregistered SDRAM. Xserve G5 systems ordered with 2GB DIMMs (8GB or 16GB of RAM using 2GB DIMMs) use logic boards that support up to 16GB of RAM using a special high-density industry compatible 2GB DIMM engineered to deliver 2GB per-DIMM capacity at full PC3200 performance. </x-tad-smaller>
Specifically, note that currently only systems CTO'd with a 2GB DIMM option support 16GB of RAM; all other configurations support 8GB. Also note these DIMMs were specially engineered to meet our technology and performance specs and are not available from any other channel. All of the 2GB DIMM solutions I have seen on the market will not meet our specifications. Finally, these DIMMs are not supported on any prior Xserve G5 systems or on Power Mac G5 systems.
