Please note the information in the "learn more" on the store:
About 2GB DIMMS
Standard Xserve G5 systems support up to 8GB of RAM using 1GB PC3200
ECC unbuffered, unregistered SDRAM. Xserve G5 systems ordered with 2GB
DIMMs (8GB or 16GB of RAM using 2GB DIMMs) use logic boards that
support up to 16GB of RAM using a special high-density industry
compatible 2GB DIMM engineered to deliver 2GB per-DIMM capacity at
full PC3200 performance.
