I have a single OS X 10.3.9 Server running on a G4 Xserve with Xserve
RAID on an isolated network with no other OS X machines that I have
access to. I was having trouble with the admin tools so I tried to
reapply the OS X 10.3.9 Server Combo updater and now I'm locked out
of the system at the GUI. I'm guessing that somehow it got switched
from local accounts to netinfo accounts (which we don't have). I've
read portions of the command line control of Server documentation but
as I don't use those commands the knowledge does not stick.
My experience is mostly OS X 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4 as we use very few
features of OS X Server. Main use is to rsync other Unix machines to
the Xserve RAID every night. I recently started using the DNS
server part and switched the data from a retiring Unix machine to the
Xserve disks and NFS mounted them. Given that 10.3.9 Server has
everything we need (and much more) we have no need to update to 10.4
Server. Given our limited usage I'd be inclined to install OS X 10.4
(not Server) on the G4 Xserve, but given we bought OS X 10.3 Server
and I like some of the features I'd like to fix the problem.
Any hints offhand or another mailing list that specializes in Server
(and/or Xserve).
Michael
