L2TP/IPsec allows me to force both machine and user authentication
(machine cert for IPsec, user cert for users), which the Cisco VPN
client can't do. This allows me to prohibit unapproved machines from
using the VPN.
Also, IPsec/XAUTH (which is what Cisco's client is doing) isn't a full
standard, and Cisco's implementation isn't easily interoperable with
other implementations. Down that road lies vendor lock-in.
