All,
Our technician Phil has put in a lot of hours to get us to be able
to sign and encrypt mail with our DOD CAC, and here is the procedures
we are using to finally get it to work consistently!! I owe him a
big "thank-you" and if this helps you, let him know your appreciation
as well!
Just FYI, the major steps include:
1) Using a Flashed USB card reader (Mac drivers are then not
required, and they don't have to be deleted if already installed)
2) Enabling the DOD Certs in the Keychain
3) Deleting old certs and CAC caches (yes, Mac caches your CAC and if
it changes (ie email address) you need to delete the cache)
4) Copy your CAC certs to your keychain (you have to do this
manually, and was the big step we were missing to get encryption to
work)
5) Ensuring the email address in the account of Mail matches the one
on the CAC
Anyway, here is the 11 page document that shows the step-by-step
(including pictures ;-) to make this happen (again, thanks Phil!).
Thanks to everyone on fed-talk who helped us out!
Sincerely,
Scott
