Maj-
It looks like the problem isn't the DAA, it's getting close enough to
the DAA to allow him to make the decision. The intermediates are
unwilling/unable/"too busy" to work what they think is an unimportant
issue. What I'd like to hear is someone's experience with getting
something signed by their DAA, and the process that they took...
For others who have asked, we've contacted the ASC MSRC and it appears
that they've got a bit more clout in this area because their mission is
better recognized by their support/approval chain. We are a
basic-research group in an organization that is mostly comprised of
program managers, and are often overlooked. I know that there are other
AFRL orgs who are working this same issue (for the same inspection) but
there isn't enough push from the top (where things appear to happen a
lot faster than when they bubble-up from the bottom...)

Capt Croker,
If your DAA signs off of it, you can use any damned solution you want.
IAW
the AFI, the DAA hs ultimate authority over your network.
Here in the ANG, our Wing CC is the DAA. I hope for your sake that
you're
close enough to your DAA to make the pitch that the mission REQUIRES
this
solution, and it's within his/her power to make it legal.
Good luck,

It's nice to see the Army is willing to cooperate with Macs.
Last week our organization (Air Force Research Lab Air Vehicles
Directorate) mandated that ALL machines NOT running Windows be removed
from the Air Force network-OS X, Irix, Linux, you name it. "They" say
they have been trying to get MAJCOM approval but have failed to do so
and now to ensure compliance with an upcoming inspection must have only
"certified" systems on the AF Network. Yeah, someone dropped the ball
big time.
If anyone can offer any help (meaning you work in an AF organization
which has "legal" Macs) it would be appreciated. From what I can find,
the Air Force doesn't care that the Army, DOE, NASA, etc. all use
Macs-they make their own rules.
On a side note, thanks Jose for the info you sent.

NETCOM has updated the authorization allowing Mac OS X (10.4) on Army
networks.
