Yes sir, you are correct. Bonjour is for local subnet only
(broadcasts to 254.255.255.255 on port 5353).
Other than my initial thought, sorry. I've forgotten more about
Windows than most will ever know. (Thank God I forgot it too), been
using Mac's exclusively since 2003 and will never look back.

However, I think that the Bonjour is visible only on the local
subnet??? I just wish that Windows were as user friendly as the
Mac. All I had to do was enter my router's IP on my Mac Book and it
found the drive. It was even easier on my local net, a message
popped up saying that the drive had been found.
I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps the hosts file in Windows
needs to have my home router IP listed?

Just a thought, but do you have to have Bonjour for Windows
installed on the Windows machine?

I need help.
Just received a new Airport Extreme at home. I have hooked a USB
drive
up to it. I can access it on the local network from a Mac or from
Windows (in network neighborhood).
I have enabled sharing to the Internet in the setup. I can access the
drive from the Internet on a Mac by going to the finder and selecting
to connect to a server and entering the IP address of my home router.
However, I am unable to do this from a windows machine. I have loaded
the Extreme software on windows and can connect to the router using
the windows version of the Apple configuration software, but I can't
seem to find a way to access the shared drive. I've tried \\myip
\share
and the net use command, but to no avail.
Does anyone know how to access a shared extreme drive from a windows
box that isn't on the local network?
Thanks
RC
