Don't launch FF with the card in the reader. After launch, insert
and unlock the card from the NSS dialog.
This is a regression of an old pre-2.0 bug.

All,
I went through the same pain that someone else on the list did,
i.e. FF (or more accurately Bon Echo) froze on me when I had the
CAC in. I used the exact path below (which the DoD config add-on
adds for you) and I even deleted it and re-entered the correct path
for the security device. It still didn't work.
To this day I use both BonEcho and Safari. I mainly use Safari as
it works the best with a CAC.
Anyway, I'd like to hear from anyone who has FF or BonEcho (pretty
much the same) working with a CAC on an Intel Based Mac. BTW, the
version of FF that BonEcho corresponds to (as of the latest
version) is 2.0.0.7.
My specs - in case this helps someone figure this out: MacBook Pro
17" 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM bought circa April of this year.

The additional step is, in Firefox, under Advanced, Encryption,
Security
Devices, is click the Load button to add a new PKCS #11 module and
set the
path to the OS X PKCS security bundle at
/usr/libexec/SmartCardServices/pkcs11/pkcs11.bundle/Contents/MacOS/
pkcs11
That will enable FF to use the OS X smart card services. Works
very well.
