You could always join the IETF working group and change the RFC.
There is significant value in adhering to standards. I like Tim's
suggestion here very much. If the RFCs were to be updated and
ratified with these changes, you could count on things working
correctly.
I've been beating Shawn up about this for years. Four years,
actually. On-list and in person.
I can attest to that. If everyone vendor willingly violates the RFCs,
what value would they have ? Let's fix the process together !
