There's violating and then there's violating. Some violations make
things more compatible, some make things less. And when a standard's
vague--and I think case sensitivity of the local-part of an RFC2822
address is a case of such vagueness--then it's best to follow the
crowd. And the crowd says, unequivocally, that local-parts are case-
insensitive.
But you knew I'd say that.
I've been monitoring the S/MIME IETF list for a couple of years.
I'll poke at a couple of players and see what they say about getting
RFC2822 cleaned up.
