For what it's worth, this isn't the same or similar problem. You have
issues with your CAC being recognized. The original poster has code
issues with Safari 3 and the AKO portal, which are unrelated to the CAC.
There have been numerous discussions about certain versions of CAC not
being recognized under various circumstances with particular readers;
before you even launch a browser your CAC certificate should be
visible in your Keychain...

I have a similar problem. When I first got a CAC reader at home, I
was able to plug in and start logging in immediately to my AF
Portal, etc. However, I recently got a new card and now Safari and
keychain Access does not recognize my card while in the reader. The
green light on my reader flashes as the USB drive recognizes there
is something there and its getting power, but nothing changes when I
put my card in it. I have restarted the programs and the computer;
I went to the Apple store to see if it was a problem with keychain
and they couldn't find an issue with that either. I've also tried
Firefox as well.
Thanks.

I am Active Duty Army and I use AKO (Army Knowledge Online). For
the last year I've used Safari to let me log into AKO with my CAC to
change my password. I didn't have any problems. Just plugged in
the reader, put in the card, signed into AKO with the CAC option,
and changed my password. Now, with Leopard, I can't do it.
I have the most updated version of Safari and 10.5.4 (Leopard). I
was able to get Safari to recognize my CAC using my reader. It
enables me to login to AKO with my card. However, when I click on
"Change Password" in the "My Account" section on AKO, nothing
happens. The link doesn't work and I can't change my password.
Under Utilities-Keychains, my 3 certificates are listed for my card
and it recognizes my card/CAC reader.
I've tried to use Firefox but I can't even get Firefox to allow me
to login to AKO w/ my CAC. The DOD extension doesn't work, either.
Any help?
This isn't an issue with the CAC. It's a known issue with Safari 3
and occurs with a non-CAC login to AKO, and AKO's non-answer is to
not use Safari 3. I know they are aware of this issue, but I don't
know of any specific plans to address it.
