Shawn,
I know YOU get it, but I don't know if Apple gets it. I have NO information
that my radar was ever acted on by Apple. I have NO information that would
lead me to believe that Apple will EVER fix this bug.
I used a DTS incident to investigate if it was possible under Tiger to do
OCSP redirection and was told it was NOT possible (June 2006). Later when
talking with Doug Mitchell, I was told it WAS possible and was told how to
do it. I have spent many hours of Thursby resources trying to build
something that is usable by the US Army. I know Apple has also.
When my customers ask me about OCSP responders and why the Thursby software
uses them and Apple does not, I have to say that I don't know why there is a
problem or if Apple will fix it.
I still don't think that Apple (the guys responsible for putting this
feature in the OS) get how important this is to the military. They have had
many months to fix it DURING the development of Leopard. At the same time
they were doing a LOT of work on the Apple trust policy, and this did not
get fixed. A reasonable person could take this to mean it was not important
to Apple.
I said "I really don't know if they "get" it yet." I wish I had said "I
have no reason to believe that Apple understands the importance of this".
The question of local/redirected OCSP is asked by my customers frequently,
and I have to say "I really don't know". If you can state that Apple is
going to fix this bug, then I will retract my statement and pass that info
along to my customers. I really really want to be wrong and will humble
myself and do penance as required :-)
