What SATA card are you using? When I first setup my G5 with the 4
drives, I had RAIDed the two new drives together and had problems where
the RAID would disappear frequently. After several calls with OWC tech
support, we figured out it was the card that was bad. Got a new one,
and never had the problem again.

Thanks. I've been having problems with the drives in my G5, and
wondered if the power supply might be a cause of the problem. It kinda
feels like a heat problem, in that after a while one or more drives
conks out (they're RAID Mirrored together in 2 pairs of 2). Right now I
have one RAID set with its primary drive up and its secondary drive
down, and the other RAID set appears to be in the opposite state, with
its primary drive down and its secondary drive up. Unfortunately, that
2nd RAID set is not showing up on the desktop or in "/volumes." I find
it strange that "RaidEye" tells me it can see that 2nd RAID partition
when Disk Utility can't see it.
I'll be playing with rotating drives once I get backup drives big enough
to hold everything. The new drives arrive tomorrow (and will go into my
external FW800 RAID Mirrored box.)
My G4 also has 4 drives in it with one drive not showing up, but I think
the problem there is a cable problem (data or power, maybe both.) It's
not a drive problem, since I swapped in a new working drive where the
problem was and I still get the same "I/O error" when I try to format
it.
