Note:
It was long expected that the iPhone OS 2.0 would be jailbroken (this
is actually not entirely accurate...it's not iPhone 3G, it's just
iPhone OS 2.0). This is no surprise.
This DOES NOT mean that the phone is unlocked. This is hardware
related, and, frankly, the 3G hardware probably will be unlocked as
well.
But the market for unlocked phones just got a lot smaller with the
international launches, and since nearly all markets require them to
be activated on a contract before the customer leaves, or cost a great
deal of money (approaching US$1000 in some cases), AND with the launch
of third party software development and the App Store, this whole
iPhone jailbreaking/unlocking/hacking community is going to be a lot
less interesting than it was before. Since all phones are either sold
at a fully unsubsidized price or require a mandatory contract, people
can jailbreak and unlock to their heart's content.

Andy,
Are you sending this information so people can jailbreak iPhones or
to give people information so they can properly and securely
address iPhones when they are added to federal systems?

The Apps known as “ PWNAGE” , is being updated to allow users to
either unlock their iPhone to run on other network wireless
carriers ( including pay –as-you-go networks) or to run non-
approved 3rd parties apps on the devices.
