A friend and I have both experienced the same set of rather nasty
failures on our G5 desktops running X Server (Leopard in my case, Tiger
in his):
1. failed RAM
2. Internal disk corruption (I've also had at least 1 drive fail, and
another dropped off my RAID set)
3. Inability to install OS X (client) - it gets about 2/3 through the
install and then says "problem - contact the software vendor"
I'm also trying to recover from a messed up Time Machine drive
("incorrect number of file hard links")
In both cases, the primary use of the machine has been local file/LDAP
server, with little computational demand (i.e. nothing that would drive
up CPU heat...)
Anyone else seen this? Are the Mac Pros any better/more reliable?
