Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] Army OS X data call
I think one of the big things that will be a roadblock to adoption is Apple’s licensing terms. There’s nothing that I’m aware of that plays friendly with Enterprise licensing. It’s all per-seat volume licensing, in which case you need to have sufficient tracking and asset management to know and manage your license exposure. This has been one of our MAJOR issues with Apple. Apparently they don’t understand that enterprise IT will willingly throw money at this problem so they don’t have to be on the hook to the BSA.
Apple, learn the term “site license” when it comes to your OS and you’ll find way better Enterprise adoption.

There probably would be justification for the enterprise licensing if most of army wasn't so much against macs. Kinda chicken before the egg thing.
If big army starts to seriously deploy macs. I think you will see people coming out of woodwork quickly.

"The US Army is currently reviewing the feasibility of deploying the Apple
OS X operating system and is collecting information regarding current
deployments of the Apple OS X desktop operating system across Army
installations. This information will be used to determine if there is
sufficient use of this operating system to justify an Army Enterprise
licensing/support model. If you represent an Army Director Of Information
Management (DOIM) or DOIM-equivalent and you currently support OS X desktops
your input is requested to assist the Army in this review. This is an Army
only review and will not consider alternate or joint requirements at this
time. Due to the public nature of this forum, no additional information
will be provided or shared on this request. If you meet the criteria listed
above, please contact email@hidden from an Army email account for
additional information on this data call."
