I enjoy the Google mail front end more so than I do the native iPhone
mail front end, and certainly more than the Exchange based front end.
With APN becoming available with iPhone OS 3.0, Google could effectively
have push ability with their rich web based apps.

Kerio offers remote wipe:

It looks like it is a requested feature for Zimbra (#18424 and 30356),
but isn't available yet.
Unrelated, but interesting article on integrating Google App Engine with

Ian,
iPhone security has lots of glaring holes, particularly if your
organization doesn't use MS Exchange or the iPhone Configuration
Utility. iPhones might be a poor choice for organizations with high
security needs. So it goes with many consumer-oriented products. I was
surprised Apple put as many security features in as they did.
I don't know of any alternatives to Exchange for remote wiping iPhones.
Seems like a third party could reverse engineer the protocol, and sell
remote wipe apps. Maybe Microsoft has a patent- protected protocol.
IANAiSE - I Am Not An iPhone Security Expert. I'm just an overworked SA
with lots of users buying iPhones who want email and VPN access -- which
many users are smart enough to figure out on their own. Some security
guidance is better than none.
Here's hoping Apple adds many enhanced security features to iPhone 3.0.
