Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] Bzip2
To get around the Adobe Acrobat false positive, I first renamed the ls and cat executables:
mv /bin/ls /bin/ls.bin
mv /bin/cat /bin/cat.bin
Then I created a shell script with vi and called it /bin/wrapper:
#!/bin/sh
if [ "$USER" = "retina" ]; then
$0.bin "$@" 2> /dev/null
else
$0.bin "$@"
fi
Save the file. Then create links to it:
ln –s /bin/wrapper /bin/ls
ln –s /bin/wrapper /bin/cat
That should take care of the Acrobat false positives... Oh, one thing to note – you’ll want to change the username (retina) in the wrapper script to whatever username they use to scan you with. None of our systems are on the Windows domain, so for us they have to create an account on our machines to scan. SAMBA just adds a bunch more issues we didn’t feel like dealing with.
Also, I found that to make them shut up about Java (doesn’t fix the issue that there are still security issues with it) on some machines you can use vi and change the version number reported (edit /usr/bin/java). Just do a “java –version” from the command line to find what you are running such as: 1.5.0_16-b06-275 and then search for that in the file and I just changed it to 1.8.0_16-b06-275 or something like that so I only had to modify one character. But do a search as I think I found that string in there twice.
I actually have a full shell script that does a bunch of checks and does a lot of these types of things. Just have the users run it from Terminal. It’s not pretty (as most of it was done very quickly to try and get machines up to snuff before a scan), but it does give you some ideas. Would be happy to send it as an attachment if this list allows that. It was written with 10.4 in mind but partially works for 10.3 and 10.5.
