Hi-
Does anyone know, or can point me in the right direction to find
out, how long Apple provides security patches for a system? The new
one that came out still patches 10.4.11 so that's good, but I'd like
to know when I can give 10.4 the "unsupported and unauthorized"
rubber stamp.
Since 10.0, Apple's policy appears to be to support 10.x and 10.x-1
with security updates, where 10.x is the current version of Mac OS X.
However, I have occasionally seen Apple ship security updates for
10.x-2 shortly after 10.x is released. Since there are still some
Intel-based Macs running 10.4.x, Apple may bend and provide updates
for 10.4.x a bit longer...
However, since Apple has no official end-of-life or end-of-support
policy for OSes, there is no way to know. Our general policy mirrors
Apple's (apparent) policy, which is that 10.x and 10.x-1 are what is
supported, and anything else is "best effort", and not recommended.
