Title: Request help finding keycodes
I am trying to customize a small application and need to determine the keycode being sent to the computer from an older apple extended keyboard with the numeric pad on the right.
I need the actual keycode: a number sent from the key board’s controller to the computer (usually then interpreted into ascii equivalents for data entry/display); apparently the numeric key pad is not sending the keycode that I think it might be.
Apple’s “keyboard viewer” is no help; it simply shows the ascii equivalent when the key is depressed, and not the keycode itself.
I’m pretty sure that back in my very old Unix days I had a short command line app/script that I ran that would read and display the actual keycode. But, that is lost to antiquity and I can’t remember how I implemented it.
Does anyone know of a small app or command line script to read those codes? This is a one time (and personal productivity) application that I am trying to use — so I’m not about to invest any money — thus, I’m looking for an open source / freeware solution.
